About Whitaker Beef

Whitaker Brahmans, Charbrays, Charolais and Angus

Clint, Robyn, Sam & Brianna Whitaker conduct Whitaker Brahmans, Charbray, Charolais and Black Angus.

Whitaker’s home base is located at “Burnett Park”, on the outskirts of Mundubbera, with other holdings located at Eidsvold and the main breeding enterprise at “Cosland”, Abercorn.

The Brahman breed has traditionally underpinned the entire operation. In short Clint and Robyn were fortunate to access Grey Brahman genetics from a foundation stud dispersal and later to secure Red Brahman genetics that included the birth of “Whitaker Maggie” on the day of delivery. “Maggie” became the matriarch of the Whitaker Red Brahman herd winning the Australian Brahman Breeders Association Cow of the Year on three consecutive occasions and was indoctrinated into the Brahman Breed’s Register of Renown. Since then they have further expanded the Red herd with the purchase of a highly fertile and productive, strongly polled stud herd from an exiting studmaster.

The Charolais influence has always played a pivotal role in the breeding program since the early 1990’s. Charolais genetics were utilised extensively over the Grey Brahman cow herd.  Natural selection ensured the resultant progeny didn’t retain any genetically derived dystocia traits and to this day our Charbrays are bred this way so they can compliment any herd they are introduced to without fear of calving problems.

The stud has secured the benefits of the Black Angus breed and the Whitaker’s are now breeding sub-tropically adapted Black Angus. Bred in our lower Central Queensland climate these bulls are both environmentally and parasitically challenged to thrive in a non-traditional area for their breed.

Whilst demand for polled cattle is rapidly growing, and the Whitaker’s see the benefits of such and provide to meet market demands, they also are very aware growth and carcass weight is heavily associated to horned genetics.  As a result, they try to keep a balanced approach to the polled equation and produce for all market requirements.

The Whitaker’s breed cattle with high natural resistance to buffalo fly.  The Charbrays are made up of the traditional Classic Charbray content cattle of 50% Charolais, 50% Grey Brahman.  The Charolais herd (whilst unfortunately not in the sale this year) is highly productive and incorporates a strong polled influence. Whilst the Grey Brahman herd is predominantly horned, the Red Brahman herd has a strong polled influence and will continue to be developed that way. And as for the Black Angus; they’re fitting into the breeding program well.

To the future the Whitaker’s aim to continue to produce commercially orientated cattle, able to adapt to any environment including country type and seasonal variances.

And of course feedback is always welcomed on how we can ensure our customer expectations are met.
